Play Go with a Friend Online
Playing online is anonymous: no account, no sign-in. An online game isn't saved on your device the way single-player games are, so the link, or a quick match, is how you get back into it.
Two ways to play someone
Share a link. Pick a board size and your colour under the Online tab, create the game, and send the link it hands you. Whoever opens it takes the other colour. Nothing to install, no account on either end, the link is the whole invitation.
Quick match. No one to play right now? Quick match pairs you with another person looking for a game on a 9x9 board, and you start the moment someone joins.
New to the game? The interactive tutorial walks you through the rules on a real board in about ten minutes, or you can read the rules of Go and practise against the computer on the main board first.
Questions about playing online
Do we both need an account?
No. Neither side signs up or logs in. The link, or a quick match, is the whole setup.
How do I invite a friend?
Under the Online tab, pick a board size and your colour, then create the game and send the link it gives you. Whoever opens the link takes the other colour, and you start straight away.
Which board sizes can we play?
A friend game runs on 9x9, 13x13, or 19x19, whichever you choose before creating the link. Quick match is 9x9, to keep the game short while you wait for someone to join.
Can two of us play on the same screen?
Not for now. An online game connects two separate devices over the internet, so you each play on your own screen, and the single-player board plays against the computer. There is no same-screen two-player mode yet.
